Got a Treo 600 recently? Make sure you keep an eye on your plan minutes. Apparently if your browser gets into standby data mode–gray arrows above the signal strength indicator–you are using plan minutes if on a Mobile Web plan and not an unlimited data plan (National PDA plan)…

Now, I was perfectly aware that Mobile Web counted against plan minutes and just guaranteed unlimited data *amount* transfer. What I was not aware of, and nowhere is it listed in the Treo 600 documentation, that to get off the network you need to, from the browser, go to the ‘options’ menu and click ‘disconnect’. All it says is that it goes into a ’standby’ mode wherein the connection arrows go gray and you can continue to receive calls on the phone.

it’s supposed to disconnect you after 30 seconds of inactivity, but it does NOT with the Treo 600…if those arrows are gray, you are still connected to their network and still getting minutes charged to you.

Not to mention, customer service reps are entirely unable to see the actual call details until the billing cycle ends–in this case, something like 3 weeks from now. You *will* get a huge bill, and only then will they make any adjustments (although it’d be a good idea to get a call in now so they can be watching for it to make an adjustment).

They *will* try repleatedly to sign you up for an unlimited national data plan.
