Content over appearance, please!
I like MySpace as much as the next person, and I’m better at reading the underlying code than designing an attractive webpage, but what’s with the goddamn super-detailed backgrounds and every fucking photo you own jammed onto one page? Why bother entering text at all if nobody will be able to read it? I’m beginning to think people pick their backgrounds based solely on how cool they think the photo is, rather than whether the overlying text is at all readable. Please! Save me the migraine! Pick a plain theme, or don’t pick one at all. I’m sick of scolling around until the text is sitting on a region of the background that provides enough contrast to allow it to be visible.

Busy guy
My dad got an article into a UK video publication recently (he’s an HD consultant and recently worked on Collateral and the Miami Vice movie). Here’s his IMDB page and his consulting website.

It’s a little like appointing Bolton to the U.N.
I know this is a few days old, but does this strike anyone else as ridiculous? Unless your family planning involves the phrase “I’m planning to have children,” this seems almost oxymoronic. I guess the main priority of the federal Office of Population Affairs will be to increase the population. Here’s a real peach of a quote from the article regarding ‘A Woman’s Concern’, the Christian non-profit of which Keroack is the medical director: “And it opposes contraception, saying its use increases out-of-wedlock pregnancy and abortion rates.” Nice assumption–that if people stop using contraception, they will automatically switch to abstinence.

Gus and noodles
We couldn’t eat him, but Jim’s family could. At least he didn’t go to waste!

Italian Greyhound needs a home
Michelle F with Rochester Italian Greyhounds is seeking a home for a male, blue, 7 year old IG. There is more information and contact information listed on the (as yet unofficial) Rochester IGs drupal site if you are interested. (Not sure if she’s only looking for someone in the Rochester NY area–ask Michelle).

Poor, stupid bird.
Yesterday sucked. While I was finishing up feeding the chickens, Gus ran up behind me and attacked me and wouldn’t let up. Fortunately he didn’t have spurs yet, or I could have been injured–as it was my leg was scratched up and he put a small hole in my leg. Paul saw the whole thing from the barn and had to run over and kick him away from me to snap him out of it.
Needless to say, we had to put an end to that. I don’t know if we’ll be able to eat him, but he’s now in parts in the freezer. :( My mom helped us do the processing (thanks Mom). We both feel terrible, since this was Paul’s favorite and a beautiful rooster…but we couldn’t have him attacking people, and AFAIK you can’t exactly rehabilitate an aggressive rooster.
This leaves Red in charge. I REALLY hope he doesn’t turn aggressive.

Broodiness over
Squeaky eggs are back (actually, these were the last bunch before she went all broody). Apparently the golf ball in the nest did the job of making her want to lay eggs there, but it made her decide to sit on the golf ball long after the eggs were all gathered. We ‘broke her up’ easily enough by removing the golf ball and throwing her butt out the door every morning, but it took a week or so to lay another egg.

Happy Hollow Bean
I didn’t carve this year but here’s a favorite from years past.
Cupcake got lucky on the way back from the vet–ll Dog Barkery opened in town and she got some free samples! They had a nice selection of toys and homemade treats for dogs. Check it out, if you’re in Palmyra.
Anyone looking to adopt a pug dog? How about a diabetic one? Or at least, donate to help with the care of one? Check out The Rochester Small Dog Playgroup site for info on Otis. Grep’s going on 5 years and still doing fine with diabetes. See Pets with diabetes for more information.
